Weekly Check-in 04/09/2022-04/16/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in Time!! These last two weeks honestly, I have been in a reading slump!!!

Because of that, I only watched media not read really. I watched 2 TV shows and 2 anime. Onto the media!!!

TV Show

Julia

This is a really intriguing show that truly surprised me. If you are a frequent reader of this blog, you would know that I am a fan of the Julie Julia movie. This show definitely goes deeper than the movie did but also it explains the steps that it took to create the first cooking shows in the early 60s-late 50s. I am curious to see how things will continue on and if the Julie Julia movie will clash with this show, that would be even better. Overall, if you are a Julia Child fan, please watch this and even if you aren’t, if you love shows like Ms. Maisel and the Crown, check this out! 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Good Place

This TV show was one that got me through some moments in college and taught me a lot about people and an intriguing perspective on the afterlife especially the implementation of philosophy and ethics. These two weeks I finally watched the last season on this show and I looooved how it ended with the characters, humor, and romance. Overall, though, if you are sleeping on this series watch it! 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣

Anime

That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime

I will be honest, I haven’t watched this show in a long time, so I actually needed the recap episode at the first of the season haha. I had forgotten how intricate this world was and how many characters that are presented. I think my only issue is some of the characters that are talked about in passing I need to think more about who’s who. The plot is also complicated as well than it used to be so as long as I have the time to watch it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

One Piece

Well this month’s One Piece episodes brought a lot of depth to a few characters and timeline/ history about others. There are also a lot of cutesy mixed with demented animation so it may be too scary for young ones. Overall, it was a lot of fun and I am excited to continue on. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

I think for me personally the week ahead, I want to finish what I start. Otherwise, I am excited to see what I do next. What about you guys? What have you read or watched lately?? Let’s talk about it!

Weekly Check-in 03/26/2022-04/02/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time!!! I did a lot of social things these past two weeks, so because of that, I didn’t consume much media.

However, somehow I managed to watch two anime and two movies. I also read two volumes of manga, one novella and one novel. Onto the media!!

Movie

Emma

I have read this book and watched an older rendition of this, but I have to say this one was my favorite to date. It was straight forward, the costume and setting designs were flawless and the emotions expressed were just right. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie if you are looking for a faithful Emma adaptation 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Dreamer

This was a fantastic movie that if you enjoy horse movies and want to know the ins and outs of the horse training/owning business. It was an all-star cast and straightforward in plot. I think this also is perfect for the whole family as well. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

One Piece

Here’s my monthly update on one piece and I am still loving it so much!!!! Yes there are flaws like everything but it’s a very intriguing story and loveable yet crazy characters. I think my issue why its not going to beat out fairy tail for me is the recaps. They’re very annoying. Because of that, I have to give this group of episodes a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

My Dress-up Darling

Ah this anime!!! It definitely elevates the manga in my personal opinion especially the dub. The characters are awesome plus learning about different photo and cosplay techniques is fun! I just wish that I wasn’t almost finished with it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Starters

New Game!

This is a very sweet start of a story about a woman who is starting out her career in the STEM community as a game designer. I loved the facts that were presented but also, I enjoyed the comedy as well. It reminds me a ton of K-ON and Sunshine Sketch essentially cute girls having fun at their job. I think it’s a series that I will continue, however, since it is very similar to those stories as well, it’s one that I will not binge read. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

Dawn of the Arcana

I haven’t read this first volume in awhile (let’s say nine months) and I rediscovered the series again after getting it recommended to me at the bookstore this week. I enjoyed the action, the romance and the overall character development and dynamic that is being presented. However, I personally feel that the “magic” she’s supposed to possess should have been explained in the first volume and not here as an afterthought. Overall though, I am intrigued and excited to continue on in the series. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Novella

Stalked by the Kraken

This is a recommendation I got from Nessa and inloveandwords and i’m glad I read it.

This is a novella that if you want a wholesome paranormal romance with a variety of sexual adventurous content. I would highly recommend. However, there are some content warnings of human trafficking, infertility, pregnancy, some stalking, and verbal abuse. Its one that I can probably read over and over I believe plus I enjoy how the world building feels flawless but at the same time thoughtful and positive. Overall though, I highly recommend it and because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

Charm Offensive

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Atria Books for the opportunity to read and review this

This book! Did I sleep on the hype?? Yes, yes, I did! However, I do feel that personally, that I read it at the exact right time for me personally. It discusses a ton about mental health as well as being queer or questioning. There are also a ton of fun quips in here that made me laugh out loud. I am not a fan of the Bachelor, or anything related to it for the most part, but I do appreciate the behind-the-scenes aspect that was presented in this story. Overall, I would highly recommend this story to anyone who has read Meant to Be: If the Shoe fits by Julie Murphy and wanted it Queer and deeper in the mental health aspect. Because of these points, I have to give it a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

I have enjoyed all of this media. Because of that, I am enjoying just picking up what I want to without a set schedule. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!

Weekly Check-in 03/19/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! With Spring Break time!

Because I was on Spring Break, I had a ton of time to consume some media with my family and by myself. I watched two movies, a few episodes of a TV show, and a ton of episodes of an anime unexpectedly. I also read two volumes of manga and two novellas. Onto the Media!!!!

Movie

Texas Red

This movie essentially felt like a documentary/play about a real life story. It is one of those that I wouldn’t recommend lightly but also it would be a fantastic teaching tool. Overall, fascinating but not what I expected. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Coach Carter

This movie definitely screams a basketball version of Friday Night Lights to me. I appreciated that it showed a variety of people and teen situations in one movie. The only issue I had in the movie was that Samuel L Jackson kept pointing to a character and they weren’t even in the shot multiple times. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Series

Station Eleven

This show is definitely one I am going to continue only because I am very intrigued by the plot. Mind you though, this takes place during a pandemic so if that triggers you right now, I recommend against it at this point. I also have read a plot synopsis from Wikipedia of the book, and I have to say as an adaptation, they have created the series more mysterious and elongating the story than what the book presents. I am very curious to see how it continues on. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

Kuroko’s Basketball

Yep, for me personally, I am really glad they came out with an English dub for this show. I don’t know what it is, but my guess is because of how a lot of the characters sound the same but also reading the subtitles and how dense they can be its a lot better to listen for me. However, now, I can watch this show further than I had before with new characters with fantastic arcs. I really enjoy those arcs plus the games are fun along with the march madness that’s happening now. I do have to say something bold about it though, it’s more individualized than Haikyuu but there’s more “magic” moves. Some of the plays seem unrealistic. But there’s also a lot more training that turns into experts. Overall, though, it’s a ton of fun for all ages. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Continuations

Demon Prince of Momochi House

I continue to really enjoy this series especially the art and morally grey tendencies. However, this volume was too short!!! Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Those Not-So-Sweet Boys

Oooh this volume had some background, love triangle, and some festival fun for our characters. It continues to be a lot of fun and intriguing. Overall, pick up this series if you haven’t already. Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Novella

Lunchtime Chronicles: The Bento Box

Thank you to Stephsromancebooktalk for the recommendation of this series

This was a fantastic novella that has a lot of beautiful lovemaking delights but also a ton of depth. I love how there was a lot of information about what it is like to have a career in a funeral home and all of the Notting Hill references in England. I think my only issue with this, was that the perspective shift was a tad disjointed but otherwise I would highly recommend this novella if you’re looking for a unique romance that is short as well as sweet and steamy! 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Shrink

This novella was very intriguing and a good time if you are looking for a smutty forbidden novella with some consequences. However, I wished that there was more counseling happening as well as more about the leading lady. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, I would like to keep doing what I am doing as far as reading a novella or two but maybe also focusing on one show or anime. We shall see though. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it.

Weekly Check-in 03/12/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time before Spring Break!! Where I watched and read a variety of items.

Because of this, I watched an anime and a TV show along with read a novel. Onto the Media!!!

Anime

Kuroko’s Basketball

I think the best thing I could have done with this series is watch it dubbed. I have read the manga, I have watched the anime in subbed form, but it just didn’t grab me. Now, even watching it with my family (yes, I am just as surprised as you are). It is very awesome although a bit philosophical at times. Overall, though, I am enjoying it but it’s not my favorite sports anime franchise out there. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Vikings:Valhalla

Ok I need to watch the other series of this before I watched this one. I felt like I was missing a lot from the story and that it wasn’t enough recap to keep up. However, the characters seem interesting and so does the lore. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

Salaam, with Love

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House Children’s Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book

This book is one I would highly recommend. Content warnings though, for terrorist prejudice, racial slurs, and a shooting. There is a romance in this yes, but it’s on the backburner for sure. It discusses a lot about someone renewing their faith of Islam (during the Ramadan season) and because of that, I personally learned a lot about the season and more about the culture as a whole. I also believe that even if you are not Islamic but are religious in some way that you would benefit from this. Its a journey of self-discovery along with learning about how strong familial bonds can be or not. It is also written in a easily consumable way for all ages to read it. Overall, I want as many people as possible to read it. Because of these points, I have to give it a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead is my spring break!!! So, I am not sure what I am going to consume next!! What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week?? Let’s talk about it!!

Weekly Check-In 2/26/2022-03/05/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time!! I dipped my toes into a variety of media and brought back my love for media consumption.

These last two weeks, I watched a movie, a TV show, and two animes. I listened to a podcast and read two novels and an omnibus of manga. Onto the Media!!!

Movie

Mr.Holmes

This movie was one my dad randomly picked, and it was intriguing although there were a ton of moments of confusion particularly when it came to moments of history. There are also a ton of moments that were embellished for the sake of mystery (which was fine, but still confusing). Overall, though, it was a fantastic movie with a great cast but its not for everyone. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣

TV Show

Friday Night Lights

My parents and I finished this show these two weeks and I loved how everything went full circle with the characters and plot. However, I wished there was more indepthness on some of the other characters. Overall though, my family enjoyed their rewatch and I enjoyed appreciating it more. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Anime

My Dress-up Darling

As you know I’ve read some of the manga but I was curious about the anime so im giving it a try

This show is definitely one that has embraced its source material to the extreme (positively not negatively). It discusses how everyone should embrace their passions and shouldn’t be dissed. I also appreciated that the English dub is also fantastic (although there are some stranger localizations than I expected but that could be just me). But like the manga, there are some parental advisories needed when it comes to doing cosplay body measurements and for the more older video games discussed. Overall though, if you can get past some of those issues, the anime is just as good as the manga. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣

One Piece

These last couple of weeks, I have had a lot of thoughts about continuing One Piece. Because of that, I wanted to watch more of the dub (because I did wait about a month I believe?) And I really enjoyed the depth of character development and lore history. Definitely am excited to continue on…4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Podcast

Little Bit Weebish

This is a podcast that I discovered randomly on Instagram, and I have binged several episodes this week. They do anime deep dives (currently they are working on Attack on Titan I haven’t watched it so I haven’t listened to those episodes) and Mini Weeb episodes with random content that I really enjoy because they have knowledge of a variety of anime and have a lot of the same opinions of me in tropes etc. Because of these points, I have to give them a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

Love and Other Disasters

Thank you to Netgalley and Forever Romance for the opportunity to read and review this book

Ooof this book! I think the best way I could describe it and some of my friends have found it hilarious is if When There’s a Whisk by Sarah J Schmitt and Rosaline Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall (both great books by the way) had a Queer baby with deep as well as sexual undertones it would be this book. There is a lot of intense discussion about identity and finding your way but also accomplishing a cooking show that has a lot of challenges and behind the scenes banter and excitement. There is a lot of sexual scenes even involving food at some point that were very fascinating to me but may not be for everyone else. I learned a lot about what it is like to be non-binary but also what it is like for someone who has only been in one relationship for so long and then stopping because of not wanting children (it was refreshing really). I think my only issue with this novel was the ending. I liked it, but I feel like I wanted a more flushed out ending as far as the show went such as the contestants that the main characters liked etc. Overall, though, I really loved this story and highly recommend it. 4 of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Air

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this book

Content warnings for parental grief, and verbal abuse. This is a book that definitely is one if someone especially a teen wants to learn about what its like with kids with physical disabilities in schools. I appreciated that there was accurate information as well as a realistic approach to how people treat children with disabilities sometimes well sometimes too well etc. Also reading the authors note, it explained about the 504 sit -in history so because of that, I would say read this book for all ages not just middle grade. Because of these points, I have to give this book a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Continuations

High School Debut

I don’t know if it is because of my current headspace or because I have not read this series in a while, but ooof this omnibus was sooooo adorable and more emotional than previous. I love this series because it shows a girl and a boy just trying to get through high school relationship difficulties. Their dynamic is amazing, and their friends also have some conflicts as well. Overall, though, I definitely want to recommend this series to all children starting high school or people starting a new relationship. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Pros and Cons of Tracking Media

Hey guys how’s it going? Today, I want to talk about the pros and cons of Tracking media. You see for me personally, I never thought about tracking my consumption of media until I started becoming a content creator with my blog and Instagram. I have found that there are pros and cons to tracking. I hope you guys find them helpful.

Pros

When You Track Your Media, You Know What to Hype For.

When it comes to tracking media, especially if you track series, you are able to hype when the next installment comes out. If you are unsure when that is, that is perfectly fine. You can also be excited for when you are able to watch/read the next installment if everything is out.

You Are Able to Learn How to Be Organized for Both Your Tracking and Everyday Life

This is one that I think I have learned the most tracking my media because it helps me to chronologically track things without forgetting anything. Because of that, it translates to me tracking other things like my events, work schedule, etc.

If You Track, You Know if You Have already Read or Watched Something

Ok this pro is inspired by my dad because I know he has a difficult time remembering what he has watched or red novel wise. I know in my case, tracking media has helped me so much to not repeat reading or watching things unintentionally. I can also intentionally track how many times if I want to.

You Know How Many You Have Consumed and How Well You Liked Them

This is one as a creator, is one I have enjoyed tracking because its amazing how many items someone can consume.

You Can Plan Out All of What You Want to Read/Watch For The Month

Tracking media can also help with planning out your year because you can theme out what you consume. For instance, consuming highlander media for a month. Yes that can be intense but even a whole week or less can help with tracking as well.

Cons

You can get Overwhelmed

Tracking can get pretty intense especially when you read and watch soooo much in a week or month. Because of that, I can get overwhelmed with actually tracking sometimes. If I read 20 books in a month, it takes a long time to track that all. Sometimes I don’t even track sometimes because of this.

You could become Too Critical and Not Have Fun

This is something that does not necessarily happen with everyone, but I can definitely see how tracking your media through a social media platform like myself can cause people to become too critical when it comes to their media consumption. Media Consumption should be fun and if you don’t find it fun anymore, just stop doing it for a while.

You Could Get into a Slump

This can happen often with people with consuming media especially when I get overwhelmed. This past year, I myself have been having trouble with a media slump and they can be easy to get into and hard to get out of.

There is a ton of Pressure to read/watch the new releases instead of Whatever You Want

This is especially the hardest con of them all with tracking media especially the last five years of tracking media. Seeing all of the different new releases throughout the years and being pressured to consume things right away, I personally felt like I needed to be accepted into the community because I also consumed the latest things and wanted to know what the fuss is about. Tracking your media can tell everyone else that you are consuming the latest thing or force you into a typecast.

These are My Pros and Cons about Tracking Media. What about you guys? Do you track your media? If you do how do you feel about it?? Let’s talk about it!

Weekly Check-in 2/12/2022-2/19/2022

Hey guys how’s it going?? Weekly Check-in time!! These past two weeks, I have accomplished a ton of watching.

Because of this, I watched two TV shows, four movies and a surprise musical! Onto the media!!

TV Show

Picard

This show essentially is a long drawn out Star Trek new generation episode broken down in 10 parts. I enjoyed it especially as someone who has little Star Trek knowledge but, it can get very dense to binge it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Baking Impossible

This show is sooo cool!! The Bakineering (baking/engineering) is unique and very interesting to watch. (I still hate the host sorry not sorry) But overall, the show is definitely fun to watch, and I would definitely watch another season of this show. Because of these points, I have to give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Movie

Come Away Home

This movie was one of those that I could not absolutely love but I couldn’t hate it either. It gave me a Disney Channel Original movie feel especially when it came to its plot holes/random drama bombs and kids being a little dumb. Overall, though, if you appreciate a movie that has a grandpa granddaughter dynamic but also some old man jokes check it out. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3-3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman

This movie was a mess. Essentially it was satirically making fun of how people can react to divorce as a middle aged woman and that the solution is to hate the other woman and run off for some self-discovery.  All points are valid; however, everyone was an archetype and looked the same to me. Because of that, I got some characters confused. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Waitress

Despite its cheery exterior, this isn’t a happy movie/story. Content warnings for affairs, physical and verbal abuse, and finally definitely eat a dessert or food before you watch this because you are going to get hungry with all of the pie references. Overall, though, it is an entertaining movie, and I can definitely see why it was made into a musical. Because of these points, I have to give the movie a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

St.Vincent

This movie is one of those that not many people will like because of the seemingly unrealistic and crude it can be. However, for me personally, I thought it presents a realistic look at a neighborhood in the city. In addition, I appreciated Bill Murray in this role rather than some of his previous because he doesn’t seem stupid just an old man trying to get through day to day. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Musical

South Pacific

These past two weeks, I was able to have the opportunity to see this musical with my boyfriend and his family. It is definitely a classic romance. As someone that hasn’t seen the movie it is based off of, it is still a fantastic story and entertaining, however some of it was more drawn out than it needed to be/not as much plot as my previous experiences with musicals. Overall, though, I enjoyed it and my experience at the theater for the first time in about 8 years. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

So thankfully the week ahead, I have some reading that I am planning to accomplish. But other than that, I am excited to continue with reading and watching whatever I want. What about you guys? What did you read or watch these past two weeks? Let’s talk about it!!

Weekly Check-in 02/05/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! This week, I think I am getting back into my groove of consuming media again, especially some great media.

Because of this, I watched two movies and three TV shows. I also read three volumes of manga and a novella. Onto the Media!!

Movie

Finding You

This movie!!! Was more adorable than I expected it to be but also an emotional movie. There were all different walks of life stories, There’s famous people elements but it wasn’t the complete storyline which I appreciated. I also loved that the leading lady wasn’t a doormat and figured things out. The guy was  also such a cinnamon roll (he even cried when he tried to take her back ahhh 😍) There were some choppy points in the plot but otherwise I loved it. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Encanto

Yes, I watched this because of the hype, no I did not hate it, but I didn’t love it it’s my new favorite thing. Here’s why: I love the characters as individuals, and I loved the music. My issue was the plot. I understood how the characters were connected or how certain things were not discussed. However, I think I needed more explanation on how certain things got solved. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi  🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Friday Night Lights

This week’s amount of episodes for this show has a lot of plot holes but also some of the characters are just too cringe 😬. Overall though, its definitely one I can watch mindlessly. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣.

Picard

This show my dad and I started to watch (if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you know we like Star Trek here) so once we acquired Paramount + we got started. So as someone who has little knowledge of the franchise, I am still enjoying it, however, it is going so slow but also twisty at the same time. There are also moments that I feel lost. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣.

Baking Impossible

This is a show that is one that I randomly found on Netflix and I thought it was very fascinating. It combines the two career fields of engineering and baking with individuals working in teams. It also presents that the edible projects have to be functional along with tasting good. Some things turned out great some went blergh.(But the host sucks sorry not sorry his jokes are lame) Overall though, it was a ton of fun and I am excited to continue on. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Continuations

Living Room Matsunaga-san

This manga just keeps getting better and better. I love the facial expressions Matsunaga-san created plus the reader is able to see how Meeko is trying to balance everything in the best way. I also love the slow burn romance that is brewing. I do, however, wish there was more in this volume. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi🍣🍣🍣🍣.

My Dress-up Darling

Because of the hype of the anime (yes I will watch it eventually I wanted to continue on in the series

Ah I am really glad that I am continuing this series. This particular volume reminded me of the manga series Complex Age, but the only differences are that these are highschoolers and not adults and there is a boy in the mix that is accomplishing his own journey. I am also loving the main leading character dynamics (especially the girl she is adorable) Overall though, I am enjoying this series (although if you are not a fan of fan service I do not recommend). Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Medalist

This manga series is definitely perfect for the Winter Olympics that is occurring this week. This volume continues where the first one left off and the art style is amazing especially when it comes to the skating aspect. I also appreciated the life lessons that were presented. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Novella

Mall You Need is Love

Thank you to the Author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

As someone who is having trouble reading right now, this is definitely a great novella for the valentine’s season. The guy is a jewelry store owner/maker (who knew that would be a unique career) plus the girl is an arcade owner!!! (Even better) The mystery and ending was a tad predictable but otherwise this was a great story. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣. This comes out Feb 11th so check it out!!

The Week Ahead

I’ll be honest, I am not sure if this week was a fluke for 2022 or not. All I know is I am doing what I want. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!

Weekly Check-in 01/22/2022-1/29/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in Time!!! These last two weeks, I have gone on a couple of solo adventures plus consuming random pieces of media.

My parents and I used to love Bones (maybe I will be rewatch it from the beginning eventually)

Because of that though, I watched four movies, an anime, and a TV Show along with reading one novel. Onto the media!!!

Anime Movie

Belle

This movie is very gorgeously animated, and the music is so profound I felt a ton of emotion. However, this is not a romance. It is more like a coming-of-age story in the sense of the main character is trying to understand how helping a complete stranger makes people happy plus dealing with grief. There are a lot of different content warnings for this such as physical and verbal abuse, cyber bullying, grief, drowning, and potential suicidal thoughts. There is a Beauty and Beast element involved but it’s not what you expect. Overall, I love this movie and highly recommend it, the only issue I had was that the plot was more clunky than what I expected especially when it comes to time. However, if you watch it enough (aka make it a physical and streaming release please), I think the plot reveals itself better. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Sing a Bit of Harmony

This movie has a lot more plot and a better character dynamic personally. The songs were adorable and sweet but also emotional at the same time (the dub was also gorgeous). The world also takes place with a ton of artificial intelligence which was fascinating to me. I was invested in every character and every relationship including the familial dynamic. I would highly recommend it if you were looking for an anime movie that is very happy although has some minimum emotional undertones and like robots!! Because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Movie

Lady of the Manor

This moovie!! Whoo it was so funny yet mostly stupid unfortunately. It also didn’t really have a point to it??? But Judy Greer and Justin Long stole the show for me. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 2.5 out of 5 stars or 2 sushi 🍣🍣.

The God Committee

This movie is one that I was fascinated with when it comes to how certain people “decide” who gets an organ and who doesn’t. I also appreciated that there was mention on how there was some research being conducted that helps with the human organ shortage. What I wasn’t a fan of on the other hand, was the age gap romance between Kelsey Grammer and Julia Stiles (🤢) and the choppiness of timeline in the story (it made things confusing). Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

One Piece

Well, you know I said last week that I was going to leave One Piece alone?? Well, it pulled me back in and I watched all that is current on the dub. I am enjoying it yes, but I really don’t think I can handle the subs and the pacing without the dub for multiple episodes. It still continues to intrigue me, and the show is still fun (not as much fun as Fairy Tail but that is just me) But overall, I am definitely pausing it now, perhaps waiting until next summer to watch more. Because of that, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Instinct

This is a show that my parents and I watched for a little bit while it was airing, and I enjoyed it then because it was an unexpected twist on the typical gruff cop and “girly” consultant. However, I like this one better because it’s a more platonic atmosphere and some of the crimes that are presented are twistier than the others. Otherwise though, I am really enjoying watching this and am excited to continue on. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

Knot My Type

After 3 weeks (my fault not the book)!! I finally finished my first book of 2022 and I am really glad this was the book.

This book is definitely going to be one of my favorites of all time. This is because I enjoyed all of the inclusiveness of characters and the psychological logic that was presented. I also loved learning about rope play and other sexual items that I have heard of but not experienced with a thorough explanation. I appreciated all of the characters with the variety of personalities and the depth that were presented although there were moments the plot was too disjointed. Overall though, like I said this will be one of my favorites of all time and I recommend it for adults who enjoy characters with disabilities in their romance. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Weekly Check-in 01/08/2022-01/15/2022

Hey guys how’s it going?? Weekly Check-in time!!! I went back to work these last couple of weeks, plus had a stomach virus i was recovering from.

Because of that, I watched pretty much everything with two movies, one anime and two TV shows. Onto the media!!!

Movie

Ron’s Gone Wrong

This movie was one I was not sure whether this was going to be fully innocent story and not necessarily something that adults would find entertaining. However! I do have to say that this movie was perfect for the whole family. It has children’s humor, it has adult humor, and it shows a ton of lessons when it comes to the friendship and social media aspects of teen life. Overall, I am really glad I watched this movie and I highly recommend it. 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Tender Bar

My dad truly thought that this was going to be a family movie aka it would appeal to almost everyone in the house… However, I can definitely tell you if you are not a fan of pretension and entitlement as well as bad language every other word, do not and I repeat do not watch this. However, the soundtrack slaps so if you want anything from it, get that. I just truly couldn’t handle the plot and main character especially when he got older.  Probably because I just couldn’t relate, I am not sure. Just if you want to try it do so but I personally didn’t like it. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

One Piece

This Anime! This Anime! Its amazing how many intriguing the characters are and how interconnected they can be. I truly enjoy it plus the plot just keeps getting deeper and deeper. There are also a lot of different political craziness and secrets are at play that make things at time awesome but also difficult to understand.  Because of this, I am unfortunately taking a pause on it for now because I think I need to watch something else. I do though recommend it if you need something interesting, episodic, and with a variety of fantastic characters. Because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Friday Night Lights

This show this week got deeper but at the same time more focused on certain characters that I appreciate but I wish there was more of others…. Because of these points, I have to give this show a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

In the Dark

Oh my gosh!! This second half of the season was so suspenseful and the plot that happened was crazy! Anyway though, you know how last time I talked about this, I was applauding the blind representation? I still love it for the main character, but there’s another character that showed up in this season who is losing their sight over time…. they are very inconsistent when it comes to the representation because there are times where it seems they can’t get out of a room because they can’t see but that same time, they could see a minute detail of what someone looks like in a photobooth picture???? Tbat seems suspicious to me…. but of course there are all ranges of blindness that only an expert in the field would know so anyway. I would highly recommend this show if you are one who loves thriller shows that have the holes they’re digging deeper and deeper but also blind representation. Because of these points I have to give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

Oh Gosh for the week ahead I honestly have no idea! I’ve honestly been in a slump these last couple of months and other than one piece everything I’ve watched someone else has picked out. Reading, I don’t know if it’s my high expectations or what or I just have too many choices. I know I know I should have a whole post dedicated to this but anyway. What about you guys? What did you start out your 2022 media consumption with? Let’s talk about it!
