Weekly Check-in 01/07/2023-01/14/2023

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-In Time where I was productive yet all over the place.

Because of this, I watched a TV show, a movie, and two anime. I listened to a podcast and read three books and one volume of manga. Onto the media!

TV Show

ER

My gosh these past few episodes were so emotional that they were hard to watch. I do though still continue to watch it. I am also curious to see what happens next. Plus, there are a ton of guest stars that I know from other shows. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Movie

Rescued by Ruby

This was one of those movies that if you want to learn about someone plus an adorable puppy become a K9 US state trooper, you definitely need to watch this movie. I also enjoyed    how encouraging everyone in the movie was to an extent. There was also a nod to the flash which was hilarious. However, some of the plot was a little choppy and it felt like the script kept regurgitating itself with the same lines over and over. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi   🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

A Chef’s Kiss

This was a book that I discovered from a booktuber and I am so glad I did as my first novel for 2023. It was a fantastic discussion about a second chance romance because of career opportunities. I also enjoyed the main characters’ romantic moments. The atmosphere and the food was also very clear. My only issue with this book was that I felt like there were too many characters all over the place that I couldn’t remember and some petty moments but overall, I enjoyed my time with this book and would recommend this to people who love foodie romances like me. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Manga

Chitose is in a Ramen Bottle

This manga is very pretentious especially when it comes to how cliques work and how the popular hierarchy work. It sometimes has way too many exposition points and I hated most of the characters unfortunately. If you are a teen who wants to know more about how high school socializing works, I would recommend it, but otherwise I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. Because of these points, I have to give it a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣

Anime

Aggretsuko

OOOOf the angst along with humor in this show. I truly appreciate the realistic approaches to office settings and relationships. However, I also think once you binge the episodes, you’re not sure what you just watched so overall I enjoy it, but it can be forgettable. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣

One Piece

There was a ton of recaps in this group of episodes, but I am glad we got some extra crumbs for the future. However, this english dub release schedule is wayyyyy too slow for me. I want more now please and thank you. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Picture Book

Don’t Be Silly Mrs. Millie

This is a picture book that I have read to my students because of the silliness of it but also because it shows a ton of speech errors and as a speech therapist, it helps students to know that they are not alone with that but also to see all of the absurd things that people think that they hear but it’s not what the speaker meant if that makes any sense at all. Anyway, I am definitely glad that I have this series on my radar, and I am excited to read more books from them 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Dinosaur who Discovered Hamburgers

This is an adorable picture book about how a hamburger is made but also a way to help with food vocabulary and procedures to go on an adventure and cook.  I also love the artstyle that the book has especially when it comes to the food and nature. I think my only issue with it is that it can seem a little too long for the students. Other than that, I highly recommend it. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Podcast

Dad Needs to Talk

This podcast still continues to be my favorite because of the host’s attention to detail and the realism of his personality. These past two weeks, I listened to a ton of podcasts but his are what I come back to especially when it comes to first impression reviews of manga volume ones. He even convinced me to read some that I needed a push to put on my list. Because of these points, I have to give this podcast a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, I think I like my pace of media consumption this year, however, I think I want to read some more. What about you guys? What did you read, watch or even listen to the start of the new year? Let’s talk about it!!
