My Answers

1) Birthday Cake: A book with a plot that seems cliché, but you adore it anyway.

I have to say this manga because it has the stereotypical high school romance, however I adore the character dynamics of this so much, I need to recommend it to everyone I can.

2) Party Guests: Your most anticipated book release for this year

Maybe it is because this past year I loved this author’s debut or maybe it is because I need to read a soft queer romance that is not in manga, but I am truly excited for this to release to the world.

3) Birthday Presents: A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

I will be honest, this year I had a ton of surprises because I am trying to expand my comfort zone, however with this book, I wasn’t sure what I was going to think about it, but it was profound and deep with anxiety and queer representation/coming out along with being funny and cheesy fame items of being on a Bachelor like reality show. But I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been interested in it.

4) “Happy Birthday” Song: A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got.

I had to add this manga as one of the most hyped manga in the manga community because I at first thought the manga was going to be too cheesy or the age gap is too nasty. However, to me this is so adorable and has fun humor and so far is one of my favorite age gap romances (and worth the hype).

5) Happy Music: A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes.

Honestly, this is one of those books that I would have truly loved as a teen especially when it comes transitioning from a child to an adult. I also agree with a lot of the quotes with this novel as well such as

“But when people say you’ve got to love yourself first, they never explain how, exactly, you get past people screaming ‘gross bitch’, how you get past feeling like your best days are your only best days because you’re managing to hide the bad bits, how you feel desirable if no one has ever desired you.”

and

“People aren’t all good or all bad. You can learn
from mistakes. Or you can keep making them. You can always become a better person.”

6) Getting Older: A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader.

I have reread this book several times and I love it very much. However, when I first read it, at the time I didn’t understand certain elements that were presented plus the rape scene was unclear for me personally at first (although I am sure that was intentional for the audience). I appreciate it even more now that I am older, and I want my teen to read it in the future.

7) Sweet Birthday Memories: A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life.

Honestly, I would put most of this series on this prompt, however this book came at a time in my life where I was feeling the lowest of the low and this series picked me up especially this couple. Bea and Huxley take care of each other when they were at their lowest and got out of their comfort zone to the max. Highly recommend.
