Weekly Check-in 03/19/2022

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! With Spring Break time!

Because I was on Spring Break, I had a ton of time to consume some media with my family and by myself. I watched two movies, a few episodes of a TV show, and a ton of episodes of an anime unexpectedly. I also read two volumes of manga and two novellas. Onto the Media!!!!

Movie

Texas Red

This movie essentially felt like a documentary/play about a real life story. It is one of those that I wouldn’t recommend lightly but also it would be a fantastic teaching tool. Overall, fascinating but not what I expected. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Coach Carter

This movie definitely screams a basketball version of Friday Night Lights to me. I appreciated that it showed a variety of people and teen situations in one movie. The only issue I had in the movie was that Samuel L Jackson kept pointing to a character and they weren’t even in the shot multiple times. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Series

Station Eleven

This show is definitely one I am going to continue only because I am very intrigued by the plot. Mind you though, this takes place during a pandemic so if that triggers you right now, I recommend against it at this point. I also have read a plot synopsis from Wikipedia of the book, and I have to say as an adaptation, they have created the series more mysterious and elongating the story than what the book presents. I am very curious to see how it continues on. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

Kuroko’s Basketball

Yep, for me personally, I am really glad they came out with an English dub for this show. I don’t know what it is, but my guess is because of how a lot of the characters sound the same but also reading the subtitles and how dense they can be its a lot better to listen for me. However, now, I can watch this show further than I had before with new characters with fantastic arcs. I really enjoy those arcs plus the games are fun along with the march madness that’s happening now. I do have to say something bold about it though, it’s more individualized than Haikyuu but there’s more “magic” moves. Some of the plays seem unrealistic. But there’s also a lot more training that turns into experts. Overall, though, it’s a ton of fun for all ages. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Continuations

Demon Prince of Momochi House

I continue to really enjoy this series especially the art and morally grey tendencies. However, this volume was too short!!! Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Those Not-So-Sweet Boys

Oooh this volume had some background, love triangle, and some festival fun for our characters. It continues to be a lot of fun and intriguing. Overall, pick up this series if you haven’t already. Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Novella

Lunchtime Chronicles: The Bento Box

Thank you to Stephsromancebooktalk for the recommendation of this series

This was a fantastic novella that has a lot of beautiful lovemaking delights but also a ton of depth. I love how there was a lot of information about what it is like to have a career in a funeral home and all of the Notting Hill references in England. I think my only issue with this, was that the perspective shift was a tad disjointed but otherwise I would highly recommend this novella if you’re looking for a unique romance that is short as well as sweet and steamy! 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Shrink

This novella was very intriguing and a good time if you are looking for a smutty forbidden novella with some consequences. However, I wished that there was more counseling happening as well as more about the leading lady. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, I would like to keep doing what I am doing as far as reading a novella or two but maybe also focusing on one show or anime. We shall see though. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it.
