Weekly Check-in 09/18/2021

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time!! This week had some craziness.

However, I did manage to watch three movies, one anime, and one tv show. I also read two volumes of manga and two novellas. Onto the Media!

Movie

G.I. Jane

This is definitely a movie that if you wanted to know what it was like for women in the military this would help. It also shows how much women go through to be accepted in male-dominated careers like politics as well. I am not sure that everything involved with the training is the same now as it was back then, however, I think this movie paints a fantastic beginning picture. Overall though, this movie does have some flaws with its age but it still was eye-opening. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Ghostbusters

This movie is a movie my boyfriend was so surprised that I hadn’t watched sooner. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how it was going to age, if it was going to be too guy centered, or if I would have found it overall lame. Actually though, I really enjoyed this. It has the right amount of campiness, it has some annoying guy stuff but it wasn’t as annoying as I was expecting, and there was a ton of fantastic interesting stuff when it comes to the actual ghost/alien hunting etc. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this movie and I am curious to see more. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Manchester by the Sea

This was a movie that has a very deceptive cover with every possible trigger warning in the book. I think it was interesting to learn about how certain procedures work for situations such as maintaining a boat or funeral arrangements etc. Plus the actors were fantastic too. But other than that, it was very sad and heartbreaking with some stupid moments. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Dresden Files

This show is definitely a very interesting show. It gives me the combination of Psych and Supernatural vibes with some crimes that occur with a humorous character and cop dynamic but there is also a ton of different kinds of supernatural mythical creatures that I have heard but also haven’t at the same time. This also definitely is fantastic for the start of the fall season. Because of these points, I have to give this show a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Anime

Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgement

WHAAAA What the heck just happened???? That was essentially how I felt after I finished the first half of my watch of the latest season of Seven Deadly Sins. I liked the twists and turns that were presented and the romantic moments were very pretty. However I am ready for the second half to get the aftereffects and the finality of the series. Because of these points, I have to give this season of this series a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Starters

My Darling Next Door

This is the age gap romance manga I didn’t know I needed!!!! This manga first volume makes it more serious than the more typical age gaps and it keeps in mind a more mature relationship and more domestic life and hang out relationship rather than just silly situations that involve misunderstandings. I think my only issue with it though is the guy seems a little like an airhead at times but otherwise I love this!! Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

Yakuza Lover

This manga volume felt so much like a filler volume (like it was essentially mostly smut) but also it shows how much of the mafia/yakuza environment that will be in the story and guys if you do not like mafia/dark romance in your stories please do not read this! I like it in small doses and because of that I am still going to continue this series. There is also more emotion than what I was expecting. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3-3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Novella

First Down

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Victory Editing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is definitely a novella for you if you’re looking for a story that has a second chance as well as a sport romance combined. Unfortunately though there are some discussions that may not be for everyone such as absent parents, religious prejudice, and celebrity drama that seems to be glossed over or just added for dramatic effect. I think for me, I would have rather have had only two conflicts than just six. But overall, I enjoyed the story and appreciated it as a decent novella. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣.

Bad English

This was an adorable novella with some fantastic smut but also profound words at the same time. The characters are adorable and have some fantastic development throughout the novella as well. I think my only issue with it was that there wasn’t a lot of conflict. Overall though, I loved it and am excited to see what this author does next. Because of these points, I have to give this novella a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, I am thinking of watching some more anime this week because I feel like I have been slumping in that area. We will see though. How about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!
