Weekly Check-in 08/07/2021

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time!! This week I did more balance between watching and reading this week.

Because of this, I watched six movies and one tv show. In addition, I read two volumes of manga and two novels. Onto to the media!

Movie

10 Years

This was a movie my dad put on that definitely is supposed to make me look forward to my 10 year high school reunion….. It kind of made me not look forward to it haha. But it was very interesting to see the variety of situations that can occur in a 10 year reunion. There was a bit too much drinking and bullying though so I am not a fan of that. Because of these points, I have to give this movie a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣.

Centurion

This was essentially a condensed action movie with all kinds of action and gore and running with backstabbing etc. I think my only issue I had other than the plot was meh was that the person who was supposed to be completely mute because of her tongue being cut off still was able to grunt (I do not think that’s personally possible but that was just me. Overall, if you like movies like this check it out. 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣.

The Vault

This was a movie that had all the feels of leverage except on a bigger scale and someone betrays the team. Although the person who betrayed was very predictable, the rest of the movie was a lot of fun. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Dear God

This is one of those movies that has a really serious premise but is very comedic all at once. Essentially its a Garry Marshall classic comedy movie that is very enjoyable to watch late at night if you want a good laugh with an allstar cast. However, there are moments that age this especially the humor so it may not be for everyone. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Net

This was a movie my dad just put on and it was interesting but at the same time, a lot of it seemed unbelievable. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣.

Anime Movie

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop

I will be honest I was interested in this purely because of the colorful animation

This was a movie that I loved the bright colors and animation style especially for the summer mood.

The cast of characters is very unique and a variety as well. It all takes place at a mall which was very fun, but there’s also a ton of creative expression as well. I loved that the characters were able to become close and have emotions in a short amount of time although I wish we could have gotten more from the characters emotions together rather than individually. I also wanted more from the Summer Festival but I just love the festivals in anime and manga.

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and would definitely rewatch it for a fun summer movie. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

The Crown

This week, I caught up with the rest of the episodes that are out with this show.   All of the actors are doing well in their respectful roles and as an audience member, you are able to see all the big yet some moments small of evolution that the Crown has done since the coronation. But in this particular week’s episodes there was a lot more about how lost everyone in the royal family feel (except for the queen of course) and unfortunately there were quite a few suicidal and eating disorder moments as well so keep that in mind when you watch this show.  I would highly recommend it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Starters

A Gentle Noble’s Vacation Recommendation

This was actually better than I was expecting it to be. Its essentially an isakai slow burn boys love story. I loved the world building and intrigue that is presented especially how intricate it was. I think my only issue was that it was not long enough I wanted more. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

Our Precious Conversations

This had quite a bit of plot yet not a lot of plot at the same time. I love how the relationship is moving forward in a slow but fun way. I think though, my only issue with this volume is that I am not a fan of is the supporting characters and their plot. I think they just keep getting in the way but that’s just my personal opinion. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Novel

Mr.Nice Guy

Thank you so much to Netgalley and BWrite for the opportunity to read and review this book

Trigger warnings for cardiac arrest, choking, cancer, grief, and some douchiness. I’ll be honest, the cover on this particular book is very deceptive. But besides that, I have some minor issues with this story. One is that I didn’t need the repeated aspect of both careers and how the male character was a nice guy. I understood that they were these people it didn’t need to be repeated this much. I also was not a fan of the heroine personally, I understood want the author was trying to do with her but I just wasn’t a fan. I did however, love the hero and it felt like he had a more flushed out character development with more believable motivation. Overall though, I enjoyed this story and I’m curious what is going to come next. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣. This is already out so check it out if you’re interested.

New Orleans Rush

I read this series out of order I know I know but! I have to say this one was my favorite in the series!!! Trigger warnings for violence, parental grief, drowning, scarred both physically for the hero and mentally for the heroine and I appreciated how real this felt. I also appreciated the creativity and how family is a huge part of this book with mostly great communication and the slowburn it took to create a fantastic relationship between the two main characters. I also would have loved more from New Orleans itself but that is just me personally. Overall though, I loved this so much and I am so glad I loved this as much as I did. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead is going to be a lot of preparation for getting back to work for the school year so I may be lightening my load for my media consumption. We will see what happens though. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!
