Weekly Check-in 07/24/2021

Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! This week was a lot more watching than reading. I also spent a lot more time with my dad than usual.

I don’t remember doing this as a little girl but my dad and I used to be thick as thieves when I was little

Because of this, this week, I watched seven movies (pretty much the same for me haha!), two TV shows and one concert (I know its crazy in this time but I needed to go). I also read three volumes of manga. Onto the Media!

Jesse Stone Movies

Trigger warnings for rape, assault, domestic violence and serial killing. I will be honest, to me these were just two hour crime shows with Tom Selleck being with several women. It was intriguing, but nothing to write home about. I also could definitely see why these are good crime movies for their time and why they stopped in 2016 because as they went on they felt the same with not as much excitement. Because of these points, I have to give them all a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣.

TV Show

The Magicians

This is a show that I am continuing to enjoy. However, this particular group of episodes my dad and I watched was a tad weird….even weirder than everything we had watched before. Trigger warnings for child pornography, horror movie esque spirits, and sex magic/ parents discussing sex like its nothing (which I personally do not mind but some people may not be a fan of it). But overall, I still love the complex magic system and the banter between characters. Because of these points, I have to give this show so far a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

The Crown

This is the show that we have been watching as a family and I have to say its been fascinating. All of the actors are doing well in their respectful roles and as an audience member, you are able to see all the big yet some moments small of evolution that the Crown has done since the 1950s. I would highly recommend it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Concert

Lindsey Stirling

Saturday, for my birthday, I had the opportunity to see Lindsey in concert and I was so amazed at how wonderful it was. This was our first time at the particular venue we saw her plus my family got a chance to see why I enjoy her so much music and personality etc. Although there is another concert that I went to in person I enjoyed just as much as this one, I loved this one more because at this concert, I was able to see the song that introduced me to her music live and in person executed so wonderfully. Because of these points, I have to give her all of the sushi and all of the stars. 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣. If you enjoy electric violin and someone who is amazingly creative and determined to follow her dreams, check her and her music out.

Manga

Series Starters

Days of Love at Seagull Villa

This manga essentially feels like a small town slow burn romance but with a beach setting instead of typically in a country small-town. Trigger warnings for familial grief, cheating, and bullying. I love the art and how every character has a purpose, etc. I just wish that there was more and it didn’t end in a cliffhanger. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Sunshine Sketch

I think I randomly got this and four more volumes in a manga lot?? But I was definitely intrigued because of the premise.

This essentially is a slice of life 4koma manga that definitely gave me K-On vibes but with people who enjoy creating art whether its drawing or writing stories. This is definitely a story that if you just need a quick pick me up and girl shenanigans with friendships (with a couple that seem like something more but its not blatant on the page). I think the only aspect that I am sure others won’t like but I glossed over is that there are a couple of character jokes that can seem very awkward and unnecessary and weird fanservice. Otherwise though, I really enjoyed my time and again will definitely continue this series when I need something fun. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars of 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

And Yet, You are So Sweet

This is a manga that I enjoy because it has one person who thinks that they do not deserve someone who loves her and someone who is super popular that just wants to be loved by someone who genuinely likes him and not doing it because he is popular. This happens in a lot of manga thats true, but this one works better than some other stories because of how the characters act. They feel genuine and relatable. The only aspect I was not a fan of the third random character that keeps getting in the way of everything. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, because of a lot of other factors that I cannot control, I will probably doing a lot more work than consuming media unfortunately. However, I am excited to continue on some of the shows I have been watching and read some books that I want to read. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!
