Weekly Check-in 06/12/21

Hey guys how’s it going? This week was one where I started to do some organizing and cleaning at my house for the summer

However, with all of the cleaning I somehow watched one movie, two TV shows, and two anime. I also read five volumes of manga. Onto the Media!

Movie

The Outlaw Josey Whales

The movie was one I kept seeing pieces of when it was on TV. Trigger warnings for violence, offensive language especially with Native Americans, and attempted rape more than once. This movie also takes place in 1860s Texas (although the setting doesn’t seem realistic at points) and ends up having a found family aspect that was really sweet. This is not something for everyone, but I think if you are someone that wants to explore the western genre and like Clint Eastwood check out this classic. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

Cursed

My dad and I watched this show together and for a fantasy show it was pretty cool

Wrapping up this show this week left much to be desired but at the same time wrapped up a decent story. The twists and turns on King Arthur mythology on top of Norse Mythology and the religious aspect was amazing yet terrifying all at once. There’s also the thirst of power and an all star cast of characters too. I think though, this is something that can be intense for younger viewers but fantastic for adults and older teens. Overall, I would recommend this show and if there’s a second season that would be awesome, however it does work as a standalone story also. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

The Great Food Truck Race

My boyfriend got me hooked on this show and now I have the family hooked.

This week my family and I watched the second season, however, this particular season had a lot more drama between teams and some were a bit more petty than others (even cheating!) but I enjoyed how different the challenges were this time and the different cities seeming like a mountain on the USA map. Overall though, we enjoyed the show and are excited to continue on. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Anime

My Hero Academia

I am putting Urakaka in this spot because the latest episodes spotlighted her in the best way

I think every two weeks or so, I have decided to play catch up with this show. I love all the new background information and new characters that bring some new perspectives and a ton of fun. However, I am over Deku’s arc right now. Because of these points, I have to give this show a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

One Piece

This anime is definitely more fun and lessonfilled than I expected. To me it even compares to the feels of fairy tail but its unique at the same time. I am hoping, as the series goes on, that I enjoy it even more. Because of these points, I have to give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Starters

Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this manga

Trigger warnings for attempted rape. Reading this manga, I was a tad bored by the romance and I felt like I wasn’t invested in the main characters. I can definitely tell that is would be awesome for a certain audience, but for me being exposed to several vampire stories throughout my life, I was bored. Because of these points for me personally, I had to give this manga a 3-3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Boys Run the Riot

Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this manga.

Trigger warnings for bullying, trans hate, and negative self-identification. This manga is one that has been hyped for the last month upon writing this and with good reason. There’s trans representation that feels to me very genuine especially with the internal conflict. To me, this gave me the combination of feels with the anime Smile Down the Runway with the anime/manga of Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. I appreciate the feels that this volume gave me with the feeling of being included with also friends being able to come together sharing a common goal to follow their dreams. The artstyle is also amazing and very distinctive. Overall, I am very excited to continue this series in the future and would definitely recommend this. 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Carole and Tuesday

This is a fantastic anime that I found out was becoming a manga and needed to pick it up.

This manga definitely gave me the same feels as the anime except without the music (which I also love) Everything just flowed and was fantastic. Definitely if you love the anime you’ll love this manga and vice versa. If you love music, science fiction, and fantastic female friendships check this out. 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family

This manga is one that you can easily put down or read in one sitting or be able to look through a little at a time with some plot interspersed. I loved the variety of recipes and character interactions that were presented in this one. I think my only issue with that was that for me in particular, there were some characters towards the end of the story that I didn’t know but that personally is a me problem not a manga problem. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Love in Focus

This manga is one that I have heard fantastic things about especially since photography is a passion of mine.

I think for most people when it comes to manga series there comes a time where there is one or two things in a second volume. 1. More action occurs and 2. More information is thrown at you about the world etc. In this instance, this has more action occurring more feelings becoming known and its just the right amount of intrigue and romance and fun that I wonder how it ends. On top of that, we learn more about photography and how important it can be. Overall, if you’re interested in a series with photography and a slow burning romance triangle, check this out. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

The week ahead, I think I am going to attempt to read some more. However, I am not sure how that will happen. We will see what happens. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Lets talk about it!
