Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in Time! This week there was a lot going on.

There was a lot happening both personally and professionally. I also posted a couple of extra blog posts this week so check those out if you’re interested in some recommendations. Somehow though, I managed to watch one anime and movie, but also read four volumes of manga and one novel. Onto the media!!
Movie
In Pursuit of Honor

So this is a movie my dad and I watched together. Trigger warnings for unnecessary horse slaughter, language, and violence with the military. This takes place in Texas in the 1930s before World War II started when the military started not using the calvary anymore. This was something that was probably for people who read/watch something like this often, they probably would think this was boring, however for me I found that it was interesting and had some funny lines to keep me engaged and entertained. Overall, I think if you like this sort of thing, check this out. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£ π£π£.
Anime
Castlevania

So this week, I watched this latest season and whoa! Even though the last season was worse as far as content violence, gore, sex, nudity, etc. This season it was a lot more toned down with some resurrection craziness and trying to solve some big problems. I do like that pretty much everyone has a happy ending (from my understanding if I missed something let me know) and that our main characters finally worked together again although I wished it was sooner. Overall, this series is very intriguing but also has a lot of moments that may make people uncomfortable. I do however, enjoy it. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Manga
Series Starters
Play it Cool, Guys

I am glad that I didn’t buy this at full price. I truly appreciate all of the colors that this manga brings (because that doesn’t happen to many). However, there are some small moments where it was a tiny bit distracting. I also got confused on who was which guy at points. It wasn’t until towards the end with the bonus chapters that I actually was enjoying myself. I hope from volume 2, that it just gets better from here because the concept is fun, but the execution isn’t the best. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Kitchen Princess

First, trigger warnings for bullying in particular girl hate, parent death, and anorexia and bulimia symptoms in particular in the second part/volume of the manga. This manga was one that was a typical cooking manga with a boarding school and a character doing her best, however, I did not expect a love triangle or the twist on the cooking. I think though, if you’re not someone who likes a sweet girl trying to help wherever she can and all the triggers above, I don’t think you’d be a fan of this. Overall, for me personally, I am curious to see what’s going to happen next. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£π£π£π£.
Series Continuations
Complex Age

This particular volume actually had some girl hate involved and it was very interesting but it felt like there needed to be some more events that wasn’t just petty. But I did appreciate that the main character is growing into her own confidence and not just being in the background and just being a spectator. I did feel also like this was a self-contained story which was new for this series. I think though, I am not quite sure how things are going to continue and also how its going to end. I am truly hoping that it ends well though (with no more girl hate). Because of these points, I have to give this particular volume a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Abe-kun’s Got Me Now

This volume has evolved the series in the best way discussing how the couple moves in the relationship and how they interact and what do they do after settling into a relationship. I really enjoyed this volume and all the profound points that were presented. However, the way it ended wasn’t what I wanted. Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£π£π£.
Novel
Where There’s A Whisk

This is a book that I saw on Netgalley and with me being in the cooking in media mood, I checked it out this week. This book drops you into the story at the start which I didn’t mind, but at the same time, I wanted some background like how did this producer find this girl etc. The ending was also abrupt. I appreciated the feeling of how real the reality show aspects were especially with the behind the scenes parts. There was also a potential love square happening and although it was strange how that aspect was solved, I could get behind the wholesomeness of it all. I also loved the persistence of all the main characters If I was in this reality show, I’d be wanting to be with that group of people. Overall, I truly enjoyed my time with this book and would recommend it if you love cooking competitions and reality tv. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£π£π£π£ This comes out in October 2021 so check it out if you are interested.
The Week Ahead
The week ahead is going to be busy as well but I am thinking of doing something different this week and try to have more variety in my consumption of media. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Lets talk about it!
