Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time. I’ll be honest this week I was trying to take things easy by watching and reading minimally.

Because of that, I read seven volumes of manga and watched two anime. Onto the Media!
Anime
After The Rain

This is a story that I was really excited to check out especially because of the art. But it turned out to be a lot more profound and interesting than I thought it would be. It discusses friendship, regrets, literature, and passion towards hobbies. It may be too slow going for someone who just likes fluffy anime however it is perfect for someone who loves profound as well as fluffy. It also makes a fantastic story that doesn’t feel disgusting although I can definitely see why people wouldn’t be a fan. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£ π£π£.
My Hero Academia

I binged watched the dubbed version of the latest season of My Hero Academia and I am enjoying it, however, I feel like these episodes are going slower than usual -.- it just feels like everything is happening at such a snail pace…..I must need to stockpile episodes to make it a better experience for me but otherwise I am curious to see how things turn out. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Manga
Series Starters
Midnight Secretary

This manga was one I wasn’t sure how I was going to react to it. However, it was fun, tame, (although there are some smutty moments keep that in mind) and a slow burn romance. I would definitely recommend this for someone who likes adult paranormal romance with some slice of life aspects. I am definitely glad I have the next volume to continue on. My only issue with it was that I wished that there was more banter before the ultimate ending. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£ π£π£.
Medalist

I have to say currently, this is my favorite ice skating story of all time. Yes that’s a pretty tall order. However, I love it because it presents these three items: What it is like starting out in a hobby/field so late that people do not take the main character seriously, How the ice skating world works in Japan for someone new to ice skating in general, and finally and to me the best part, learning the technical aspects of ice skating itself as well as what happens from the coaches’ perspective. Because of these points and also the amazing artstyle that this manga holds, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£π£π£π£ only because I wish that the ending wasn’t a cliffhanger!!!!
The Springtime of my Life Began with You

This manga made me feel emotional. At first, I wasn’t sure what was going to become of this story because of the beginning with a “prank”. I related to the main leading girl because of the fear of doing seemingly “normal” school events/wanting to do them to make more friends. The leading guy I want to know more about him and what his motivations are and I hope that happens. I loved also his profound words and his bluntness towards the girl and his appreciation of her hobby. Again, I am curious to see what this series has to offer and I definitely want to continue more. 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi π£ π£π£π£π£.
Series Continuations
Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits

This manga is one I love because it combines food and fantasy. I also appreciated the bonus story that this volume has because it showed a nice story before the start of the series. Because of these points, I have to give this volume a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£ π£π£.
Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter

I took a break from this series and continued on this week and I am so glad I did. The political intrigue, the character development etc. Essentially, this is Story of Saiunkoku based in Victorianesque times with some minor changes. Its slow-paced but in a good way and no romance (at this point). Overall, this is a filler volume to the series but I really enjoyed my time with this. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
A Sign of Affection

Now this series is one I am still on the fence about even on this second volume. With my knowledge of Japanese Deaf culture plus the author’s notes throughout this manga, they felt very accurate and realistic to the situations at hand. However, my feelings from the previous volume are the same in the fact of Where is this going? What is with this dude?? I know I know guys this is a romance and I know this is a romance but I don’t feel like other than the deaf protagonist, there’s anything happening or there’s way too many questions that I feel need to be answered and they just aren’t happening. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Otomen

This had a bunch of shenanigans that were presented in this volume and there is an added character (which I appreciated) but there were two instances that I felt were unnecessary to the plot such as a random suicide attempt and a fire (trigger warnings for those by the way). I think I just wanted it to go in a different direction. Overall though, I still really enjoy this series and I am excited to continue on. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£π£π£π£.
The Week Ahead
I’ll be honest, this coming up week may be the same as the previous one, however, I hope to watch some more media soon. What about you guys? What did you read and watch this week? Let’s talk about it!
