Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! It was Spring Break this week.

Because like I said last week all bets were off on what was going to be watched or read. Because of this, I watched one movie, two tv shows, and finished one anime. I also read one novel and three volumes of manga. Onto the Media!
Movie
John Wick:Part 3

I know I know I just keep going into left field with some of my movie choices but I watched this with my boyfriend this week and this fits his interest of action movies (which for me can be hit or miss). However, for this particular one, I was intrigued by the all-star cast, the set design, and of course part of the plot which was John Wick meeting all these different people in different places and collecting what was owed. But of course, since I wasn’t sure John Wick’s motivation of everything (because I didn’t see the first one), I was left unsatisfied with this. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£π£π£.
TV Show
Chopped

This is a show that has always fascinated me because of all the different dishes that people come up with as well as the different ingredients that have to be used (some things I have never heard of before). It is definitely something that I can also imagine the whole family watching as well 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi π£π£π£π£π£.
Great Food Truck Race

Now this was a series that I truly am surprised with how much I like it. My boyfriend introduced me to this series last year and it was really interesting to see how food trucks work and what it takes to run them. The particular series we watched this week takes place in Alaska which is especially interesting. Because of these points, I have to give this a 5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi π£π£π£π£π£
Manga
Standalone
Can an Otaku Like Me really be an Idol???

Let me just say first, this is for mature readers and there is sexual content in here so if you’re not interested in that, then do not read this. Otherwise, I thought this story was fun and interesting especially when it came to the idol culture in Japan. My only issue I had was with the format putting a short story that has nothing to do with the title manga in there was very annoying plus there was too much sexual content presented in my personal opinion. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Series Starters
Mermaid Melody

Wow I was really happy with this manga. This is essentially a teenage drama with mermaids. Reading this with the thought of the anime, it was essentially quite a few episodes smashed together which was awesome for me, plus it was hilarious to see everything coming back to me although the end of this manga was a bit different than the anime. For someone new to the series though, you might be sad that you don’t know the songs in this and you’ll definitely appreciate it. I think its very kid friendly (at least to me) and its very fun and interesting. The art is also beautiful. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£ π£π£. only because there are a lot of sporadic text everywhere.
Series Continuations
Skull-Face Bookseller Honda-san

I can definitely see why people were not a fan of this after this volume, however, I still think its pretty cool because of the education it presents on what happens as an employee at a bookstore. Nevertheless, it was a lot more heavy in this volume than previous and because of that, it brought my enjoyment down just a little bit. This is because I wanted more plot/comedy. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£π£π£.
Anime
Gravitation

Finishing up this anime was a bit underwhelming to me. The Dub is still too stiff and the rest of the anime felt like I was in a loop with no satisfying ending. There are triggers for abuse, manipulation, and intense goof moments. I still love the music though. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£π£π£.
Novel
11 Paper Hearts

This book is one some people may not be a fan of with some of the bullying that is presented in this. Otherwise though, I really enjoyed this. It has some mystery elements(with some classical book references), profound love/friendship quotes, transformation of one’s self after a trauma, retrograde amnesia representation, and some exploration of New York City. There was a twist that I wasn’t expecting and that increased my enjoyment in the story. Although I wish there was more at the end. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi π£π£π£π£π£.
The Week Ahead
The week ahead I am hoping to do a more balanced reading and watching week. What did you read or watch this week? Let’s talk about it!
Great work! Paper Hearts totally looks like Iβd read it!
