February Readathin 2021 Challenge

Hey guys how’s it going? This week I wanted to wrap up my February Reading Challenge.

Don’t Mind the sound, I had BattleBots playing in the background haha!

My friend A Court of books and love has done this monthly readathon for years and this year they created a wheel for their challenges.

So I decided to spin the wheel and see what I got everyday and record it on this blog post. Caveat: There are going to be quite a few duplicates, however, I tried my best to use something different for everything. (Also I apologize that the wheel prompts aren’t pretty but I think you guys will be ok with it) In addition, Snowpocalypse happened where I live during this month so I missed quite a few of the prompts so I almost didn’t write this post but anyway hope you enjoy. Onto the Wrap-up!

Day 1

Today, I was able to relax after work not exactly reading but I was able to relax drinking my Starbucks and plan out the rest of the month with my books/manga. I also was able to do a mask and relax and spinning this prompt first of the month was much appreciated.

My read of the day has to be this volume of manga from one of my favorite series So cute it hurts. This series could fit several prompts for me for Readathin but I read it today because to me it is considered a comfort read. When I want to self-care and not think of anything when I read, I can definitely pick up this series. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 2

Well, I didn’t do this challenge today, but I did start a book. I hope that I can read this challenge sometime this month. If I do, I will put it here:

This was a trade paperback I decided to pick up. Naive sidekick realizes her academy wants to use her as a scapegoat joins the villains. The art is classic, the story is pretty straightforward, and more unique characters than usual. 3.5 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 3

So do you remember in the previous day I had started a book? Well today I finished it 😃.

This is a book I had seen so much in the adult romance community because it is a Highlander Romance with a Deaf main character (something unheard of). I put it in the prompt of Own Voices for Readathin because it has the deaf representation straight from the author’s perspective with her husband. This was definitely a profound and soft Highlander Romance in my personal opinion and I am curious about this author more than ever. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 4

This day, I had a difficult time deciding what book to read for this. I tried a book and I got thirty percent and it made me very angry. Because of that, I changed my tune and picked up something very unexpected.

This manga had a lot of complaints in the manga reviewer space, however I thought it was pretty interesting. There are some moments also that the explicit items were a tad unnecessary but its still something I would love to continue in the future. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it and it was definitely perfect for the 3 title prompt today. 3 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 5

This day, I decided to work on one of my Netgalley Review books that my discord picked for this month.

This book was one I didn’t know what to expect but it was overall a good romance read. The random word I picked with this book fitting it is filing cabinet 🤣(read the book to figure out what the title even means) 3 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 6

Today I decided to read a manga that was off of my physical TBR and its also one I am using for a Romance Blog post (more to come on that) so I picked this.

This is a cute Yuri manga that takes place with two girls in the aquarium club. I think reading this manga has shown to me how much I enjoy soft stories about people learning about something new and moving to a new place. Also I appreciate the pacing that goes into the relationships and how happy-go-lucky it is. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi. The random word I chose for this is Fish because it takes place in an aquarium club 🙂

Day 7

I read this manga today because the hype was real. So many people have greatly anticipated this because of the author. If you are looking for something that has some snarky boys along with a good story check this out. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi This is actually book/manga number six for me this month and that’s why I am putting this manga in this challenge spot.

Day 8

Unfortunately due to my reading taste this month/ my overall taste I was not able to read anything with no romance in it unless you count this book that I already read for graphic novel

Day 9

Even though this was a self care day due to the busyness I had that day, I read whatever I wanted so I picked out this one

This is an Explict Smutty Manga 18+ only… This is something that if you love smut and are not afraid of nudity at all, check it out. Other than that, I was very disappointed with the plot and there was too many sex scenes for me personally. 3 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 11

The random word I picked for this manga is Star and I will be honest, I think I had higher expectations for this. Its probably because of Kiss Him not Me the author’s previous work was so good. It has the same feel of Kiss Him not Me in the otaku aspect of things and the rock star aspect was awesome too. However, I was not a fan of the friendship/relationship of the characters plus the opening for the sequel was one I hate 3 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 13

This is a A Court of Books and Love pick because this was the buddy read on their discord so its perfect for this prompt. I loved this book in the sense that there was a lot of great moments between the characters and their adventures and some moments where I felt as a reader that I learned a lot of lessons about the profound subject material that was presented. I would definitely recommend it for new adult /adult audiences who need something profound like this. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 15

This is was a sequel to a manga I started and I can see why it gets dropped quickly. It essentially is one of those series that is slice of life with a ton of vampire jokes. Fine but not the best. 3 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 16

This was a manga I was looking forward to reading so I am glad I got to it during this challenge. I heard about this manga/anime and watched the first episode of this anime and I like the manga better because of being able to read my own pace of the camping information and the artstyle is gorgeous. Very slice of life and very relaxing although I am hoping the plot moves a bit faster in the later volumes.  4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 18

This was a book that I have seen a lot of people hype it up and I can definitely see it especially for people new to the paranormal genre. There’s a lot involved with friendships and relationships which was good but I felt there needed more world building and more romance for me personally. I am definitely curious about the rest of the series in time and the author is one I will keep on my radar in the future. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 19

This Book! THIS BOOK!! haha sorry about the caps but I truly enjoyed my time with this story. I loved taking my time learning about both characters and how they can fit into each other. There is own voices Autism Spectrum Disorders representation but its played into the story unexpectedly and I loved it very much. There was so much that I was able to highlight because the words that were presented from both perspectives were items I was able to relate to and many people can when it comes to finding yourself and trying to become independent along with trying to navigate boundaries and falling in love. 5 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 20

This is my morning reading prompt because I started it one night and finished it in the morning. I truly enjoyed this book. Every middle/intermediate school teacher needs it in their classroom. It has a lot of musical theater references, it shows a lot of inclusion with physical disabilities as well as LGBTQIA+ representation and racial representation in the best way. There’s a ton of musical theater references in here, the most being Wicked my favorite musical of all time. This comes out in April so please check it out if you can. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 22

This is a series that its anime I watched as a teen and its one that has stayed in the back of my mind for years. Reading this on Valentine’s day was a very fun experience because this is a quintessential soap opera shojo story with some unorthodox adults. I am excited to continue this. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 24

This manga continues where the previous one left off but its a lot more episodic than what I expected in a good way except for it felt a little rushed??? Yes I am probably the minority in this opinion but I appreciated that every couple got quite a bit of page time and that every relationship is moving to the next level. However, the episodic chapters felt rushed and out of order and there were a lot of references to volume 2. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 27

I am really glad that I have gotten back into this series. I remember watching the anime and loving it because it starts in their senior year of high school through their adult career and that was something that I had never watched before. Until reading this, I did not realize how old this series is (there was a calendar saying 1991 in it and my eyes widened at the sight). Since I know the story I wasn’t turned off by it but I can definitely see why people who are new manga readers would not like it. As far as subject matter, the leading guy can be mean but endearing, the family is such goofballs, and the leading girl has feelings but can’t act on it because of the guy’s feelings (I know its something that I sometimes hate) However, for me this series is so much fun and I am curious to see what new content I will see continuing on. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Day 28

This was a buddy read I did in my discord and who read it really enjoyed it but they did feel the same way in the sense there are moments where the author overwrote some of the plot but the characters are amazing. 4 out of 5 stars/sushi.

Conclusion

Overall, I am really glad I did this challenge in the sense that I “thinned” out quite a bit of my physical and digital to be read for this year. However, it also made me realize there are a lot that I couldn’t have fit in the prompts so thankfully I know to change that next time. Thank you to the hosts A Court of Books and Love and Momsbookcollection for the opportunity and will definitely do this again. What about you guys? Do you like reading challenges like this that thin out your to be read pile? Do you like this style of blog post?? Lets talk about it in the comments!
