Weekly Check-in 2/20/21

Hahahahahahha! Hey guys how’s it going? Weekly Check-in time! This week was very unexpected with Texas (where I live).

I was pretty much at home all week with no power for some of those days in the cold just under blankets either reading or watching items I downloaded onto my tablet.

So because of everything that happened, I was able to read and watch quite a bit. I watched 3 movies,2 TV shows, 2 animes, and 1 K-drama. I also read 4 volumes of manga and 1 novel as well. As you can see its quite a bit so onto the media!

Movie

Eagle Eye

This movie is one that if you love conspiratorial action plots, an all-star cast and artificial intelligence. I loved the twists and turns that occurred with this movie and all who were involved. The only true issue I had was that the ending was such a copout (the romance was unnecessary truly). Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

My dad and I watched this pretty late because we liked the cast

When it came to this movie, this is a sequel to a different movie (we didn’t know this till after we finished but it didn’t affect our overall enjoyment). It shows the audience about what was happening in Wall Street during the 2000s up until the 2008 bubble burst. There was a lot of this that was very interesting, but there was so much that I found predictable as well even staying up late to watch it.

Overall though, if you like watching the ins and outs of Wall Street and who can be affected by it good and bad, check this out. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣.

Anime Movie

Ride Your Wave

You can find this at HBOMAX

This movie was one I was recommended by a couple of people and it was unexpectedly very good.

It has a lot of elements involved such as surfing, firefighting, and falling in love. I loved that there was a deep cohesive story so much so that I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next, but at the same time there are a lot of the same anime movie tropes to it so if you do not like those you probably shouldn’t watch this.

The animation was an interesting style to use but I loved the character designs as well. This also involves older people (id say in their twenties but age is unclear) so if you like anime movies that don’t involve high school students I would also recommend this one for you as well.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this movie and would love to own it. However, I would keep in mind that it is one I will watch if I need to feel a certain mood. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣🍣.

TV Show

New Shows

Strange Love

This can be found on Discovery+

I think when it came to this show, I liked what it was trying to do when it came to the unique stories and relationships that blossomed or didn’t, however, I felt it was too repetitive especially towards the end. I also wished the episodes were also more cohesive in the sense that they focused on one who was looking for love and one who was maintaining love. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣

Harley Quinn

This can be found on HBOMAX

When it comes to this show, its very mindless except for the F bombs (don’t let children watch just don’t). However, its very intriguing how Harley examines her life and friendships as well as new characters that I haven’t seen in much DC I’ve watched. Overall, its very fun and mindless and I am enjoying my watch. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣.

Anime Rewatch

My Hero Academia

This is on Prime Video and Funimation

This anime rewatch is one I have been meaning to so and I forgot how slow it is (in the aspect that there’s a lot of Deku background stuff not enough UA stuff). However, this is a lot of fun for some mindless superhero antics and what it takes to be a hero or following their dreams. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

New Anime

Demon Slayer

This is on Netflix and Funimation

I think its best to go into this series blind. This is because it has a lot of different aspects occurring simultaneously but at the same time shows motivation and sadness and family as well as friendly bonds. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣. I am curious to see what else this series brings but I think for me its best as an anime not a manga.

K-Drama

Hello My Twenties

This was one that I was recommended by my friends and I am very intrigued. You can find it on Netflix

I am trying again with the K-drama game with something a bit more “fluffy” (I haven’t watched enough to say if it’s fluffy or not) but I think this will remind me a bit more of my college life plus watch someone go through some different situations that I didn’t. Overall though, I am very intrigued but I’ll take it episode by episode. 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Manga

Series Starters

Marmalade Boy

This is a series that its anime I watched as a teen and its one that has stayed in the back of my mind for years.

Reading this on Valentine’s day was a very fun experience because this is a quintessential soapopera shojo story with some unorthodox adults. I am excited to continue the series. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

Laid Back Camp

The hype of this series is one I can definitely see it.

I heard about this manga/anime and watched the first episode of this anime and I like the manga better and here’s why:

I think when it comes to the information about camping in Japan itself, it is easier to understand reading it at my own pace with the manga as opposed to reading the subtitles really quickly. Although I love the animation better (probably because of the color) than the art style in this manga, the manga is personally better. This manga is very slice of life and very relaxing although I am hoping the plot moves a bit faster. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi🍣🍣🍣🍣.

Series Continuations

Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku

So this was the series that spurred my love of manga that wasn’t an anime adaption I first watched.

This manga continues where the previous one left off but its a lot more episodic than what I expected in a good way except for it felt a little rushed??? Yes I am probably the minority in this opinion but I appreciated that every couple got quite a bit of page time and that every relationship is moving to the next level. However, the episodic chapters felt rushed and out of order and there were a lot of references to volume 2. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣.

My Pathetic Vampire Life

His teeth though 😬

Hmmmmmm this manga is one that I can see why it get dropped quickly. It essentially is one of those series that is slice of life with a ton of vampire jokes. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

Obsidian

This is a series I have seen around for years that I finally got a chance to read on my kindle. I can definitely see the hype

This is a book that I can definitely see being a beginning of a good paranormal/alien series for teenagers. Theres a lot involved with friendships and relationships which was good but I felt there needed more world building and more romance for me personally. (That could be because I have read quite a bit of paranormal romance but who knows). I am definitely curious about the rest of the series in time and the author is one I will keep on my radar in the future. 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣 🍣🍣.

The Week Ahead

When it comes to this coming up week, I will be playing a lot of catchup at work. So its possible I may not be reading quite a bit for fun. However I hope to continue watching stuff that I started in this post but also some that I found while downloading things to watch this week that I want to try but didn’t get a chance to. (Or my download queue was too big) so I want to give those a try. What about you guys? What did you read/watch this week? Lets talk about it!!
