Hey guys how’s it going? Today’s Weekly Check-in was mostly an otaku week.

I read two volumes of manga, watched an anime movie, listened to one podcast episode, and watched two movies with the family. Onto the media!
Manga
Standalone
Cafe Latte Rhapsody

This was a manga recommendation i recieved from one of my fave YouTubers and I liked it but I can definitely see why people don’t.
The artstyle isn’t for everyone for sure but for this couple its very endearing. The characters are also likeable but also unlikable at the same time.
There’s also some smut in this (id say definitely more than I hear the sunspot if you’ve read that) but it’s not so much that its overwhelming so if you don’t want too much smut at once I would definitely recommend this.
Overall, though there are moments that I was not a fan of, I really enjoyed this standalone Yaoi or BL romance. It’s very soft and not too intense which I appreciated. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.
Series Starters
Practice makes Perfect

Now as you guys know me and sports are pals but not best friends, but this volume of manga ooooo *chef’s kiss* it gave me The ice in our hearts vibes except cuter and more emotion involved. This is also for adult readers so don’t read it if you aren’t. I would definitely recommend it for someone who is looking for a series with two older people, some sports sprinkled in, and attentive love. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣🍣.
Movie
The Congressman

Meh… If that is all I wanted to say I could have just left it at that. There were moments in this that felt unnecessary, creepy, and just plain sad. It is probably because of the characters and one of the actors (Treat Williams cough) made it worse. I also thought it felt like a Disney Channel Original Movie in its plot at times but also in its profound speeches at the end especially with the pledge of allegiance. Overall though, it was an okay movie but I wouldn’t recommend this for everyone. 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi 🍣🍣🍣.
61*

This is a movie that my family and I watched this week talking about Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle’s 1961 baseball season. This movie was fun but also interesting especially since I did not know much about this part of baseball history. One thing I will have to tell you guys in advance though, is that there’s a lot of offensive language towards women and cruel language towards some of the players. That’s just how history was in that time and how rude fans of baseball can be. Overall though, I am glad I watched this movie and if you’re interested in this movie check it out 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.
Podcast
The Yaoi Shelf

I wanted to highlight this podcast today because part of the reason why I have started reading/watching Boy’s Love/Yaoi because of this podcast. This particular episode I listened to this week discussed Fan Works and Doujins. I enjoyed this episode truly because it discussed the beginning of my anime/fandom career with Quizilla and AMVs. I used to love reading and watching them (I also still like watching AMVs to sometimes help me find new series or reliving some of my favorites.) Anyway, I would definitely recommend this podcast if you’re looking at Boys Love and Yaoi and don’t know anything about it but also a discussion to knowledge you already know. 4.5 out of 5 stars or 5 sushi.
Anime Movie
Fate Stay Night Heaven’s Feel part III

The highlight of this week had to be this anime movie. We have waited a year for this anime movie, and as far as the animation goes with the action scenes and the score, it was absolutely worth it. The other aspect I enjoyed about it was that it gave a few characters some redemption arcs that have not happened in the other paths which was fantasic. However, the plot blergh, although enticing and gave a lot of history into the beginnings of the Holy War, was very unsatisfying in the end. Like someone got Kikyoed! (Inuyasha reference for my non anime readers also my coworker and I got a kick out of making that reference) But overall, my coworker and I loved this movie better than the second one but the first one is the best in this particular path/franchise in our personal opinion. Because of these points, I have to give this anime movie a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣🍣🍣🍣. I am definitely going to continue watching through some more Fate franchises in the future.
The Week Ahead
This coming up week is Thanksgiving week in the USA. So I anticipate that I am going to be catching up on some things that I have been meaning to read and watch plus some new things. What about you? Did you read and watch anything fun this week? Let’s talk about it!
