Weekly Check-in 09/26/2020

Hey guys how’s it going Weekly Check in day! Because of storms (again yes I know) there wasn’t a lot I read or watched but I have enjoyed all of what I consumed this week. I read a novel, I watched a movie, and started an anime. Onto the media!

I’m sorry this is hilarious 🤣

Movie

The Greatest Showman

This movie/musical has been on my list since I heard a million dreams on Instagram and this was what I wanted Hamilton to be, more story, more music that is impactful yet fun. There were only a couple songs I was meh on in this case and it was a fantastic biopic with plot along with music that was seamlessly done. Also both of my parents enjoyed it as well which means for us it was fantastic for the whole family. Because of these points, I have to give this a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣.

Novel

The Ice in our Hearts

Thank you to Xpressotours for the opportunity to read and review this book

This book was one I inhaled. I think its because of the time of year plus because of how different it was. Its a young adult novel about two teenagers (sixteen and seventeen respectfully) who are world renowned Winter Olympic athletes. Yes you read that correctly. You’d think its just fluff. No actually with the athletic aspects of things plus Type 1 diabetes as well as hyperhidrosis representation there was a lot of jargon as well as explanation involved without feeling dumbed down or too excessive.

I really enjoyed this story and how magical it was especially with the family and friendship side of things.I also could feel the emotions that the characters presented in their respective roles in the Olympics but also falling in love with someone who truly understands you.

However, I had a couple of gripes minor though compared to what it could have been. For one, the writing style. When I wanted to be with the athlete in the competition there were some side points that would be awesome in a screenplay, but awful when it came to the book itself. Other than that, I loved what the book was able to show us about the world and what it would and could be like in an Olympic athletes Winter Games this coming year (pre covid of course).

The other gripe I had and this is of course could be a me thing(as it usually is in these situations) was that the ending was more ambigious than I wanted… I know the Olympics wrapped up and everything but what about after…… did they go the distance? Did the other side characters get what they wanted in the future as far as moving forward what?? I think I just wanted a epilogue I’m always a sucker for those (except for when some things don’t make sense).

Overall though, this book was a fascinating story and if you are looking for a winter fix check it out. Because of these points, I have to give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi 🍣 🍣🍣🍣

Anime

His and Her Circumstances

This one gives me Special A and Maidsama vibes but in a different way (maybe its because its funnier we shall see)

I started this anime on YouTube because I used to watch some AMVs with this anime involved. Even though its older and very bland looking at first, so far its emotions and subject matter that it presents is deeper and more adorable than the other classic high school romances I have watched in the past. I also have liked that it shows both sides of the relationship in more depth as opposed to some others at least in the anime side of things. I am excited to continue on a little at a time.

The Week Ahead

I’ll be honest, this entire next month is going to be more unpredictable than this past one. One thing’s for sure though that I’ll try to do as much as I can to read or watch something. I am glad though that this week as opposed to last week I had a lot more positive experiences than meh ones so I hope to do more of that next week. What about you guys? What have you read or watched this week? Let’s talk about it!
