Hey guys how’s it going? Delayed post on my Weekly Check-In just because I was trying to make sure I had enough to talk about. Turns out I had a lot of fluff (intentionally trust me). I read four mangas this week, I finished up a TV show, and rewatched an anime. I’ve also started a book but hopefully I’ll talk about that more next week. Onto the media!!
Phantom Dream

When it comes to this manga, its not something that I would recommend for someone who enjoys fluffy manga. This is also something I wouldn’t recommend for people expecting Fruits Basket that has a balance of light and dark. The trigger warnings I found in this manga were one uncensored nudity scene, exorcism (if you don’t like exorcisms don’t read this at all), suicide/suicidal thoughts, parental verbal abuse, and overall grief.
The one manga series that I can compare this to so far is Millienum Snow by Bisco Hatori because of the lore, the leading lady, and the overall episodic feel. Unfortunately, I didn’t like that series very much but if you do, I would recommend this.
Overall though, it was dark, emotional, yet intriguing all at the same time. I think I want to read a couple more in the series before I drop it and I need to be in the right head space before I continue. Because of these points I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Complex Age

I was recommended this by a few people in particular Laethas on YouTube as an underrated manga recommendation and this definitely fluffed up my mood up to a certain point.
I was feeling the Wotakoi Love is Hard for an otaku mood and I didn’t want to reread/watch that right now so I was able to fulfill that void with this volume. It took me awhile to finish because of life but I was able to enjoy it regardless.
I loved the discussion it presents with the detail about cosplay and photography with the pros and cons of it and it didn’t talk down when they are explaining things.
This is an adult manga because of some minor fanservice shots and the discussion matter (not sex or anything just may be too adult for younger readers read at your descretion).
The art is beautiful and I loved how it again gave me the wotakoi feels but it definitely is formatted alot better for new adult manga readers.
There’s a bonus short story that the mangaka presents that discusses what this manga plot could have been instead of what it was and whoever picks this manga up needs to read it because it made this even better to me.
Overall, This volume was a definitely a nice fluffy read with some darker elements as well. I recommend this for all the otakus in the world and it is definitely underrated. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 4 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£ π£π£π£.
Waiting for Spring Vol 4

I am glad that I was able to read this manga volume this week because out of the three this series is the definition of fluffy. This volume in particular I liked because I think the uncomfortable aspects for me have settled in at this point.
At the start of the series, I was contemplating dropping this series because of the uncomfortable aspects that were presented. Now I might not immediately read the next volume but I am really glad I continued.
I appreciate how the sports and the romance tropes balance cohesively and that there’s a conflict both on and off the court. It also ended on them celebrating summer vacation and the art throughout that is my fave in this series so far. Because of these points plus the overall entertainment value, I have to give this volume a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 4 sushi π£π£π£π£.
RWBY Manga Anthology vol 3 Blake Belladona

I think when it comes to this series it’s one you can read out of order you can read them as a standalone etc which is one of its pros. The con is they’re essentially short stories that pretty much occur in between everything of the main show and helps present more character backgrounds and backstory. This was a reread because the first time I really couldn’t understand how to rate and review this. Because of this, I have to say this manga volume in this series was my least favorite. It was a lot of the usual plots and tropes that were already presented in the show that I felt weren’t really necessary to rehash. Because of these points, I have to give this manga a 3 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£π£π£.
TV Show
Tough as Nails

On Wednesday, the finale of this show came out and as a family we were up and down but the one who won was one I wanted to win (well essentially I only didn’t want one guy to win and thankfully he didn’t so yay).
As a family, the only thing that we didn’t like about it was that it was a tad bit more preachy than what we wanted but we loved the skill based challenges and how the people were eliminated was fair and just in our opinion. Overall, though its very enjoyable and fair in our opinion there are some things we’d change because of these points I’d give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars or 3 sushi π£ π£π£.
Rewatch Anime
Haikyuu

Yes yes yes I know I’ve already talked about this this past week with my Sports anime recommendation but this is my third watch this 2020. I think its just because its something I can put it on that’s not necessarily predictable but it’s exciting too. Part of this also is because I am preparing for the next season of this anime to come out next month. Unfortunately though, the dub is so much easier for me personally to consume it so it may be awhile before I watch both to the top seasons.
The Week Ahead
Um… I’m not quite sure what I’ll end up doing this week. Like I said earlier I started a book but I know I want to keep on the fluff/manga into the next week. We shall see π. What about you guys? What did you read or watch this week? Lets talk about it!
Phantom Dream certainly gets off to a rough start, you can tell that itβs Natsuki Takayaβs first series. It does get better though, so Iβd recommend giving it a couple more volumes before deciding to drop it or not. π
